Warehouse Safety

The legislature approved new requirements affecting warehouse employee meals, rest breaks, safety, and quotas. WR has repeatedly urged legislators to recognize that the bill is unnecessary on the basis that an employer cannot impose work conditions, through quotas or any other requirements, that interfere with employee’s basic rest, meal, safety, and anti-retaliation rights.

WR worked hard to remove burdensome provisions in SB 1762 to certain warehouse distribution center employers to provide written descriptions of quotas and work speed data to employees. Significant amendments included eliminating private right of action, Attorney General’s authority to bring criminal action, and allow L&I enforcement and penalty authority.
